POWERLIFTERS:
Powerlifting info 5/4/08:

Special Invitation to All Powerlifting Teams

On Sunday, May 4th, 2008, the Suffolk County Long Island Special Olympics will hold their Spring Games at the amazing William Floyd High School. There are already over 800 athletes scheduled for this terrific event. The athletic department of William Floyd HS has graciously extended an invitation to all NY Special Olympics powerlifters to use their Gymnasium and bleachers to hold a powerlifting competition.

We, as powerlifting coaches, now have the unique opportunity to participate in this special event. There will be an Olympic Village on site with over 200 activities for athletes. Trams will be provided to shuttle the powerlifters from the gym to the Olympic Village. The facility is so large that there will be separate entrances for athletes and coaches and spectators and volunteers. We will enter through the Spectators entrance in order to access the gymnasium. Of course lunch will be provided, under a huge tent.

Together we can plan and execute this competition- we will need judges and score keepers from among our coaches and a set of lights for the judges. I am a coach from Suffolk County and am inviting the Hudson Valley teams, Staten Island team, and other NY City teams on behalf of Suffolk County Special Olympics. Let’s get our athletes together and have some fun. Please respond quickly so we can adequately prepare. My home phone is: 631 581-4532 and cell is 631 523-4532. E-mail: MGlatzer@aol.com
I will send directions and get the details about time to all who respond. Thank you.

Mark Glatzer

DEVELOPMENT

2008 Polar Plunge - Sharpe Reservation:

We had a wonderful turnout at the plunge this year despite the rainy, cold weather. It didn't put a damper on anyone for the Mahoney's Ice Breaker on Friday, March 7th, and the Polar Plunge on Saturday, March 8th. It was a success due to all!

We had over 200 plungers raising over $75,000 this year! WOW! From the bottom of my heart and the 3,500 Athletes in the Hudson Valley Region, THANK YOU!

Hope you will join us again next year!
