Here’s a look at what’s upcoming and what already happened in the Valley…


UPCOMING EVENTS:

REALLY, REALLY IMPORTANT STUFF: Regarding SONY Summer Games…
There have been adjustments made regarding the length of the event, as well as the sports offered and the quotas. As per last week’s attachment… the event is now THREE days long: Friday, Saturday, and Sunday: We will depart on Friday, June 12 and return on Sunday, June 14, 2009. NOMINATIONS are due on APRIL 30, 2009! Get them in on time as quotas are LIMITED!

18 April 2009 – Time Trials – Putnam Valley HS – 8:30 am start
This is a track & field event that is a mandatory precursor to the Spring Games EAST.

25 April, 2009 – Spring Games WEST – West Point – 9:00 am registration
This is a track & field competition for those athletes on the West side of the Region. It is a phenomenal day of competition, camaraderie and festivities at West Point. IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUT WEST POINT: There will be a concession (perhaps two). The menu and price list are left/below, as promised.

16 May, 2009 – Spring Games EAST – Brewster HS – 9:00am registration
This is a track & field competition for those athletes on the East side of
The Region. It is also a phenomenal day of competition, camaraderie
and festivities.
IMPORTANT NOTES ABOUR SPRING GAMES EAST: A concession stand will be up and running. We will provide a menu/price list as we receive it. Additionally, there are NO bleachers at this venue!!! Be prepared to sit on the grass. Bring tarps or blankets in which to park your group. We will prepare a map of the venue and send it out prior to the event so you have a general idea as to the layout of the site. It will NOT be to scale. No one here even remotely resembles an architect. Pray for a sunny day.

Athletes must be registered and have a current medical on file.

Westchester Golf League

This league is scheduled to start (tentatively) on Tuesday, 9 June, 2009 from 5:30pm – 7:00pm. This league will run every Tuesday evening throughout the summer, weather permitting, at Mohansic Golf Course and Driving Range in Yorktown. There are two parts: Skills for those just beginning and actual hole play for the more advanced golfer.

On-going TENNIS TRAINING: Program started 15 January, 2009 at West Rock Tennis in
Rockland. This program will meet weekly (afternoons) 3 – 4 pm.

IMPORTANT STUFF:

We have changed the date of the Westchester-Putnam SOUTH Local Basketball Competition to Saturday, 28 February, 2009 (from 14 March). It will still take place at White Plains HS!

Summer Coaches Conference – 21 February, 2009 @ White Plains HS

This conference is for ALL coaches, new and seasoned coaches,
alike. We are offering a General Session, sport specific session in:
Aquatics, and Track & Field as well as Advanced Coach’s
Training in General Fitness and Health offered by Coach Dona
Dimaggio. Ms. DiMaggio has coaches several Varsity sports in the
Mahopac District for 20+ years and is a member of our Program
Committee. Coach D is also a certified Special Olympics coach and
worked directly with our athletes in the Bronxville School District
for the past five years.
Finally, Spring Games & Time Trials registration will be available
for early pick-up at this conference.
These sessions will include lunch for all coaches and will
begin at a very reasonable 10:00am.
Please alert your staff/coaches to the offerings and make
arrangements for their attendance.
Registration for this conference
will CLOSE on Wednesday,18 February, 2009! Call now to reserve
your space(s)!!!!!!!!!!!

COACHES: Please note you must become re-certified every three years. To achieve current certification, you must attend an advanced coaches training session, such as what is being offered (above) by coach D.



NEW STUFF!!!

Remember those Edit Lists??? Good News…we are never, ever going to
have to do them again!!!!
Here’s the catch, in lieu, we are going to be in need of seasonal rosters for any and all individuals partaking in any season/sport.
Don’t sweat it, Linda will be sending out the roster sheets soon (with explicit directions).
We are going to send them via email, if you have one, and/or a hard copy for your perusal. More to come…..



UNIFIED REGIONAL BOWLING:

We are going to move this event into mid to end of summer. At this time, our budget will only support one (1) event. If that changes, we will add the second event at the end of the year. Thanks for your input and cooperation.

PAST EVENTS

24 January, 2009 - Regional Floor Hockey Skills Competition – Yonkers
This event saw 79 skills athletes compete for medals and ribbons.
Thanks to Mat for securing the facility and to the Yorktown Elks for
their stellar volunteer turn-out. A wonderful day of competitive
opportunities was provided by these awesome volunteers!!!

31 January, 2009 – Regional Floor Hockey Team Competition – Yonkers
This day saw 153 FHT athletes compete in an outstanding
Competition. The event was run by three sport directors:
Nancy Logan, Charlie Jones and Kristine Burton. Our thanks to
those individuals for their efforts in creating competitive divisions
and securing officials for the entirety of the event. Also, thanks to all
of the officials, Paul, Valerie, Ken, Dave, Chris and Bones. Too, we’d
like to extend special thanks top Mat for his efforts in securing the
facility and to Angelo for his efforts in ensuring meals were available
for all participants. Special thanks, too, to Eileen Torres for being
there as a volunteer and for securing volunteers for both the skills
and team competitions. 14 teams in 5 divisions competed for
medals and ribbons. A grand time was had by all.

31 January, 2009 – Local Basketball Game – Orange Flames/Taconic DDSO
The Orange County Flames hosted a Basketball Game on this date, to
Allow their (relatively new) training club an opportunity for outside
competition prior to the Regional competition. Thanks to Kevin and
Ed for taking their team on this rather long jaunt to help provide the
competition. Thanks to Jim K. and Mary C. for their efforts in
establishing this new club! Kudos to all!!!

6-8 February, 2009 – SONY Winter Games – Rochester
The HVR took 112 athletes and coaches to Rochester to compete in
Alpine Skiing, Nordic Skiing I & II, Snowshoe, Floor Hockey Team
and Skills. Thanks to ALL of the coaches for their dedication and
efforts in allowing our athletes this incredible competitive and social
experience. Special thanks to Kelly & Summer (our RN’s) for taking
care of all of the medications and any medical issues that occurred.
Thanks too, to Mat and Jimmy for, in addition to coaching, took on
the task of officiating at the Floor Hockey Team event. You guys are
awesome…also, Mat, thanks again for taking on the HoD job. You
are all the best!!!
The HVR returned with a ton of medals and ribbons…the athletes had
a wonderful time at this three day event!
