WEEKLY UPDATE

Month of June, 2006

Oh MYLANTA, it's almost July! June has come and gone, and so now, have all the Spring Games, Metro, and the Summer Games! It is at this time of year that we move into the calendar mode and start putting together our upcoming program year. But first, let’s take a quick look at the past few weeks of competitions and what's happening over the summer...

PAST EVENTS

May 13, 2006 - Spring Games EAST - Dutchess, Putnam & Westchester Counties

HOSTED at MAHOPAC HIGH SCHOOL
Over 550 athletes competed at this event where the questionable weather held out for the day. 21 individuals comprised the field of the pentathlon event alone! All of the athletes were afforded the opportunity to compete in three events plus a relay.

An unprecedented thirty (30) teams took advantage of participating in the relays this year. Overall, this was one of our best events yet. Olympic Village was run by Mr. John Brower in ine fashion. Special thanks to John for his efforts!

As always, the Healthy Athletes program was in full swing supported by Dr's Seagriff (DDS) and Hoffman (podiatry). Thanks to Doc's, their colleagues, friends & staff.

June 3, 2006 - Metro Tournament - Manhattan
Hudson Valley Region made its' presence known at Metro sending in excess of 125 athletes & coaches to the event. Though the day was rather rainy, the athletes enjoyed an extensive Olympic Village and the indoor events.

June 15-18 - SONY Summer Games - Albany
When all was said and done, the Valley sent over 200 athletes and 50 coaches to the Summer Games. The athletes were given ample opportunity to showcase their abilities in the various sports offered, as was evidenced by the clanging of the medals they wore post competition. Two Valley B-Ball teams, Devereaux and Taconic DDSO, went head-to-head, playing for the gold, in the highlight game, preemptive to the closing ceremonies.

RECAP ...
May 6, 2006 - Spring Games WEST -Rockland, Orange, Ulster & Sullivan Counties
HOSTED at WEST POINT

Over 400 athletes showed up for the competition at West Point in track & field, aquatics and adaptive games. Additionally, over 650 USMA cadets volunteered for the day. Opening Ceremonies began with skydivers being launched out of a helicopter at 4500' and landing within 5 yards of one another. The Army band was there to provide music for the duration of the ceremony.

The competition was successful, overall, but can always be better! If you have any suggestions, please feel free to drop an email regarding your concerns or CONSTRUCTIVE criticisms/solutions. (Please note that t-shirts are NOT a part of competition and will not be entertained.)
