PAST EVENTS

May 19, 2007 – Regional Spring Games EAST – Mahopac HS 8:30am

This Track & Field event saw over 500 athletes, 200
coaches and 450 volunteers turn an rainy, overcast
beginning of a day into a sunny and smile-filled
afternoon filled with medals and winners all. The
efforts made by the coaches and volunteers throughout
the day to keep things running smoothly despite the
rocky start with the rain was incredible! Thanks to all
that made the athletes day so successful by hanging in
there and braving the torrents of rain and verbiage!

June 2, 2007 – Metro Tournament – Riverbank State Park (NYC)

This event was a Regional qualifier for some of our
athletes. The HVR sent 65 athletes to compete in
various events at this competition. Out athletes had a
wonderful time at this venue and secured more than
their fair share of the medal count! Out thanks to the
SONY staff for their efforts at putting on the event.

June 1,2,3 2007 – Rhode Island State Summer Games (U.R.I.)

9 pentathletes from the Hudson Valley Region
attended the R.I. Summer Games as the guests of
the State of Rhode Island. This event took place on
the campus at URI-Kingston. Our pentathletes
competed against athletes from the states of Rhode
Island and Virginia at this event. Each of our
athletes came home with a medal and story. One of
our victors wound up jumping his personal best in
the High Jump when converted to 5 feet! A great
time was had by all. The staff of Rhode Island S.O.
was so impressed with our athletes’ level of training
and their courtesy, they have already invited us back
for next year’s competition!

June 14-17, 2007 – SONY State Summer Games – Albany
This competition saw over 170 athletes and 55
coaches attend the State Games in Albany. As
always, a stellar time was had by all. Our
pentathletes, some with their warm-up in Rhode
Island, tied or bettered their performances two
weeks prior, and the basketball team from Orange
won the final “highlight” game in a very close game.
It just doesn’t get any better than that. All of our
athletes had a great experience.

PSSL – Pioneer Sports School League

Before anything else , I must pass on a very sad note to all of you affiliated with the Pioneer league. One of our coaches from the Sleepy Hollow Team, Mary Beth McGuire, passed away earlier this summer, following a long-term illness. Mary Beth coached for several years, in tandem, with Kim Kaczmarek over at Sleepy from the inception of the program to the best of my recall. Her constant smile and upbeat demeanor will certainly be missed.
If you would be so kind, regardless of your affiliation or beliefs,
she did so much for our athletes,….might you take just a moment to put in a good word for her, her family, and friends at this time….thanks.

The PSSL ended on a stellar note. Bedford was kind enough to host the closing party/dinner on 5/31/07. In speaking with all those that attended, a great time was had by all.

As previously stated, Ardsley will remain in the league for at least the basketball cycle and will likely join for the soccer cycle in the Fall.

Washingtonville has shown interest in joining the Pioneer league in the 2007-8 season, as has the Pearl River district. I will keep everyone posted as to any new developments as they occur. For now, all remains status quo.

It is possible that another district may have interest in joining: Pearl River has expressed interest in the PSSL. The AD has contacted me directly and has also discussed the concept with several of the coaches directly. No decision has been made as to the when and where as yet. I will keep everyone posted as to any further discussion(s).
