PAST EVENTS

17 – 20 January, 2008
We were fortunate to have three of out HVR athletes and two coaches attend a National Tennis Competition/Invitational hosted in Charlottesville, Virginia. Athletes Tom Adimari, Joey Calarco, and John Gianakouros competed in both singles and doubles tennis with SO athletes from all over the country in this three day tennis event. Each of the athletes brought home medals and memories of some stellar tennis competition. Thanks to coaches Sofia Gianakouros and Ted Mascola for everything they did to make this event so successful for the athletes! We are looking forward to next year’s competition with great anticipation!

26 January, 2008 – Floor Hockey Skills Competition – Yonkers
This event saw 69 registered athletes from different agencies registered to compete in the five different skills components. As always, the Yorktown Elks showed up, en masse, as our volunteer base. They, along with approximately 25 other outside volunteers put on a stellar competition for the HVR athletes. Special thanks to the Elks for, as always, being there. Too, to Mat Longo for arranging for the use of the facility for the competition! Thank you to all the volunteers for coming to promote a quality competition for our athletes.

2 February: Regional Floor Team:
13 teams attended this Regional competition. The competition went according to plan and ended right around three-thirty, thanks to the use of the third gym! Mat, you are the best! Special thanks to all of the officials, Bones and Nancy for setting everything up, as always! Competition was fierce within the divisions…and a great time was had by all.

8-10 February – Winter Games Update:
SONY’s Winter Games saw over 75 of the HVR athletes compete in Alpine Skiing, Nordic Skiing, Snowshoeing, Floor Hockey Team and Floor Hockey Skills respectively. The athletes enjoyed the venues tremendously.
