PROGRAM UPDATE

22 May, 2008

Yee-ha! Spring Games are a wrap!
Thanks to all the wonderful volunteers who made it happen, the host sites that provide the stellar venues, the coaches who put in the time to train the athlete and to the athletes themselves who never cease to amaze us with their incredible performances!


Here’s a look at what’s happened and what’s upcoming in the Valley…


UPCOMING EVENTS:

12 June, 2008 – SONY Summer Games
All nominations for Summer Games should be in this office…as they were due a couple of days ago. Registration is CLOSED, uniforms have been ordered…there will be no further changes or additions.
Confirmations will be going out in the mail today!

28 June, 2008 – Regional Bowling Competition – Chester, NY (Orange Co.)
This is a new Regional Bowling Competition just added to the calendar. Coaches, please note that this event is AFTER Summer Games and is a great opportunity for your athletes. Please make note and free up the date. There will be a regular two game competition followed by lunch and awards. Registrations will made available approximately one month prior to the competition date.

PAST EVENTS

17 May, 2008 – Spring Games EAST – MAHOPAC HIGH SCHOOL
This track & field event hosted at Mahopac high school saw 450+ athletes compete in various events. The weather was awesome and the competition fierce. The athletes had a great day to compete, a wonderful facility at which to do it, and tremendous support of hundreds of volunteers and coaches to get it done!

Vin Collins, the point man at Mahopac, was instrumental in orchestrating near perfection in set-up and organization for the day! Thanks Vin, for making it “all good!”
Thanks to our key volunteers that come back, year after year, to get things started and help it run so smoothly. You are the BEST! As always, the Yorktown Elks were there taking care of things at the softball throw. To our returning crew: The Knight of Columbus, John and his son, Bob, Ward, Annie, Carol, Beth, Marlene, ME, Dee (welcome back), Chris, Bug, Marzie, Eileen, Tom, Kelly, Steve and of course, my “Boyz”.


PIONEER SPORTS SCHOOL LEAGUE

Mamaroneck hosted the second Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday, May 21, 2008.

Ardsley has CONFIRMED the dinner/dance for the athletes on Thursday, 29 May, 2008.
There will be a d.j. and the event will start at 4:00pm and at 6:00pm on that date.

ONGOING TRAINING

On-going – Ulster County Track & Field training
Coach Lanton did a great job at starting and running this program for the first time. She had over twenty athletes attend the Spring Games at West Point. Kudos to Coach Lanton and her new club! They even put toghterh two relay teams for the event! Way to go Bonnie!

One down; one to go! The Spring Games at West Point was festive and the weather couldn’t have been more splendid! Let’s see what this weekend brings…

Please read carefully below, as there is a lot of info for the upcoming Spring Games East!!!

Here’s a look at what’s happened and what’s upcoming in the Valley…


UPCOMING EVENTS:

10 May, 2008 – Spring Games EAST – MAHOPAC HIGH SCHOOL
This event is a track & field competition for the athletes in Westchester, Putnam and Dutchess
counties, respectively. Registrations are done and in. Over 550 athletes are registered to compete in Track & Field. PRAY FOR SUN!!!!

The concession will be open at the event. Please know this concession is run by the High School and had NO affiliation with Special Olympics….hence, we do NOT have anything to do with pricing or menu! The prices are ALWAYS very reasonable…

Below is a tentative schedule for the day…we thought this might just be helpful. It IS “subject to change” as it is a preliminary schedule, please treat it as such!



NO lunch will be provided (hence the concession)…This event WILL go on rain or shine! Please be prepared for all situations.

As always, athletes MUST be dressed in athletic attire…jeans and/or shoes/work boots does NOT constitute athletic attire!!!!!

PAST EVENTS

10 May, 2008 – Spring Games WEST – West Point- USMAcademy
This event was stellar in all respects. The cadets did a wonderful job, as always, in providing a great competitive environment for our athletes. Officers of all ranks were seen throughout the day to present the medals and awards. All four hundred plus of our athletes entered in track, aquatics and adaptive games were provided with outstanding facilities and great competitive quality. In turn, our athletes provided inspiration and, in some cases, awe. What more can you ask for in a single day?

Thanks to our key volunteers that come back, year after year, to get things started and help it run so smoothly. You are the BEST! Charlie & Sue, Carol, Beth, Chris, Bug, Marzie, Eileen, Mr. Jones, Kelly, and of course, my “Boyz”. (Next year, guys, don’t futz with the lock, huh?)


PIONEER SPORTS SCHOOL LEAGUE

Ardsley has CONFIRMED the dinner/dance for the athletes on Thursday, 29 May, 2008. There will be a D.J. and the event will start at about 3:30 – 4:00pm and end prior to 6:00pm on that date. I will confirm the exact location prior to the event (either the high school or middle school).

Well, it’s official! Spring Games is upon us and it truly is the busiest time of year, both here in the office and for you, I’m quite sure!

Please read carefully below, as there is a lot of info for the upcoming events!!!

Here’s a look at what’s happened and what’s upcoming in the Valley…


UPCOMING EVENTS:


10 May, 2008 – Spring Games WEST – West Point- USMAcademy
This event is a track & field competition for the athletes in Orange, Rockland, Sullivan and Ulster counties, respectively. Registrations are done and in. The event will include Adaptive Games and Aquatics. Over 400 athletes are registered to compete Track, over 25 in Aquatics and over 40 in Adaptive Games. PRAY FOR SUN!!!!

The concession will be open at the event, the menu and prices are attached to this email, should you have interest. Please know this concession is run by the Academy and had NO affiliation with Special Olympics….hence, we do NOT have anything to do with pricing or menu!

PAST EVENTS

19 April, 2008 – Time Trials EAST – Putnam Valley HS
This event saw over 500 athletes participate in the trials for the upcoming Spring Games East at Mahopac High School. The sun was shining, and so were the athletic performances. This prelude to the competition was phenomenal. The volunteers were outstanding, the coaches, incredibly helpful, and the athletes, well, they are always great, and this weekend was no exception!
Special thanks to the Yorktown Elks for their stupendous support at running the softball throw, and to Norm Krieger over at Shot Put. Thanks, too, to Marlene Uris at Standing Long Jump. Y’all made the day a tremendous success. To all my friends on the “blue side” you are the “best” always! And to the Jones crew…thank you, thank you! John Hallinan…no band-aids, but I appreciate your efforts anyway, and to Bob Geber…thanks for coming….AGAIN! Finally, to my “boys”…you’re awesome…see you Saturday at 6:00am!

Woodlands will host the first Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday, May 14th, 2008.

Mamaroneck will host the second Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday, May 21, 2008.

Ardsley is slated to host the dinner/dance for the athletes on Thursday, 29 May, 2008. (If a representative from Ardsley would be kind enough to call and confirm this, I would be greatly appreciative, as many schools have called inquiring!)
